Just like a fingerprint, each skin is unique. Quality control is central throughout the entire process. It already starts during rearing. We take care to prevent any damage to the hides during rearing and transport. First of all, for the well-being of the calves, but also because you will continue to see damage to the hide just like when you cut your finger. When the skins arrive at Oukro, a first selection takes place. The skins are sorted on the basis of quality and then salted. Salt extents the durability while maintaining the good and high quality of the calfskins. 

The process that follows - on the way to, for example, the designer bag - can be roughly divided into five steps. All this takes place at Oukro's customers. 

Step 1
Skins are first washed and soaked, removing the hair, dirt and collagen. Step 2
After that the fat and meat residue that is still attached to the skins is removed.
Step 3
After processing in a so-called split machine, the skins are separated into a bottom and top layer. The bottom layer is used for making suede, for example. The top layer is further processed into leather. Leather is a natural product and therefore needs to be processed further so that it remains flexible and strong.
Step 4
Thereafter the skins are dried and the desired structure is applied so that the leather feels supple, smooth or rough.
Step 5
Then the designers can get started.
