Director-General from the Ministry of Agriculture visits the VanDrie Group
On Friday 15 December 2017, Marjolijn Sonnema, the Director-General for Agro and Nature at the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV), paid a visit to the VanDrie Group. This working visit was made to the subsidiary company Ekro in Apeldoorn.
During the working visit, extensive discussions were held on subjects of importance to the VanDrie Group, such as food safety, animal welfare and chain transparency. Ms Sonnema also visited Ekro’s various production departments. All this happened on the busiest day of the year for the company. With Christmas just around the corner, production at Ekro was at a peak.
Henny Swinkels (Director of Corporate Affairs at the VanDrie Group) and Vincent Geven (Director of Operations at Ekro) acted as hosts during this visit. Swinkels explained, “Good, constructive contact with the Ministry of LNV is important for our company. The Dutch agro sector is facing tough challenges in relation to climate and the environment, such as reducing CO2 emissions in order to comply with the Paris climate agreement. The VanDrie Group needs to respond to these challenges, too.”
Henny Swinkels explained further, “The realisation of our ambitions is in our own hands. However, we need support and latitude from the government for the developments that we want to introduce. The visit of the Director-General reinforces mutual understanding and substantive dialogue. This enables us to move forward in 2018 with confidence and ambition.”
