Better Life hallmark
Since 2009, the VanDrie Group has produced veal with the Beter Leven seal of approval, issued by the Dutch Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Veal bearing the Beter Leven seal of approval meets higher demands in relation to animal welfare and is sold by Dutch retailers.
The calves from which the veal is sourced are given more fibre-rich roughage than is prescribed by European standards and they can always all drink at the same time. Transportation to the veal farms never lasts longer than 8 hours or exceeds distances of 500 km, while transportation to the slaughterhouse never lasts longer than 4 hours or exceeds distances of 250 km. The VanDrie Group has agreed that no calf suffers from anaemia.
Every year, the Kiwa CBD inspection authority performs inspections on behalf of the Dutch Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at our veal farms and slaughterhouses to ensure that they comply with the requirements of the Beter Leven seal of approval. Compliance with the agreements is laid down in the VanDrie Group’s Safety Guard quality system.
