VanDrie Group allowed to acquire Alpuro Group companies

Now approved by German competition authority as well

Mijdrecht / Uddel — The German competition authority, the Bundeskartellamt, has given integrated veal producer VanDrie Group the green light for its acquisition of the Alpuro Group’s companies. Both organisations are pleased with this decision, which took longer than expected. The Bundeskartellamt had needed more time to complete its investigation than other competition authorities due to the particular situation in Germany. The result is that the acquisition may proceed, with the explicit condition that VanDrie Group put an end to its veal fattening activities in Germany. VanDrie Group has stated that it will be able to comply with this condition within the first quarter of 2011.

Because the competition authorities from the other EU member states involved had already lent their approval to the acquisition, the two companies can begin their merger in the spring of 2011.

The approval of the Bundeskartellamt has brought an end to the uncertainty which had been looming over all parties involved with the two integrated veal producers. Both VanDrie Group and Alpuro Group manage the production of their own feed, buy young calves, support their associate veal farmers, maintain their own abattoirs and processing plants, and manage sales both domestically and overseas.

For VanDrie Group, this acquisition means a further strengthening of its position, allowing it to continue to cater to developments in the global market for veal.
